People in Plazas has kicked off its summer concerts with bands that play at noon in S.F. plazas from downtown to civic center. Hicks with Sticks has added the following PiP dates to its calendar:
8/5 Hi-Ball Hot Shots @ 560 Mission St. Plaza, SF Noon free
8/11 The Saddle Cats @ 303 2nd St. Plaza, SF Noon free
8/25 Mitch Polzak & the Royal Deuces @ Transamerica Redwood Park, SF Noon free
and recommends the following Americana bands that draw from swing, R&B, blues, bluegrass and zydeco: Cosmo Alley Cats, Wendy Dewitt, Macy Blackman and the Mighty Fines, Stompy Jones, Andre Theirry, and Gaucho, all of which can be found on the PiP schedule, a PDF that can be downloaded here.
There are close to 100 shows on a program that also features jazz, Latin, funk, surf and bands that specialize in Cuban, Trinidadian, Peruvian, Brazilian and African music. Those looking for a break from downtown SF cubicle life need look no further than People in Plazas.
