Following are the songs and soundtrack played from KALW when Hicks with Sticks sat in for Peter Thompson‘s Bluegrass Signal show on February 8th. The first nine cuts are from bands that were playing live between 2/8 and 2/15. Tracks nine through twenty constituted a “Hillbilly Rock Block” which featured twanging versions of pop and rock classics. Listeners who could identify nine of the twelve original artists who made these songs famous were invited to call in to win tickets to various shows. Tracks 11, 21 and 22 are new releases. Track 23 is from the vaults and by The Naked Barbies, a Bay Area band from the ’90s, that was hassled by Barbie’s maker, Mattel, into changing their name. All but tracks 13, 14, 15 and 19 are from Bay Area bands past and (mostly) present.
